The Young Academy of Norway will host the 2023 Nordic Baltic Meeting for Young Academies
Over 35 participants from all the Nordic and Baltic countries will visit Oslo for an exciting meeting this Friday.
We are proud to announce that we will host this year’s Nordic Baltic Meeting for Young Academies (NBM) on September 8th. The meeting have been held bi-annualy every other year since 2016. After the meeting last year in Helsinki, Finland, we agreed to have the meeting annually.
The meeting will be held at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and also the day after the Letten Prize Day. We are honored that this year’s Letten Prize Winner, Paula Moraga, will attend the meeting.
Two themes: Language in Academia and Academic freedom
This year’s NBM have two main themes. First is language in academia. Oddmund Løkensgard Hoel, the State secretary at the ministry of higher education and research, will present how the Norwegian government address challenges regarding language in academia. Then we will discuss summary of the situation in each of the Nordic Baltic countries.
The second theme of the meeting is academic freedom where Dr. Anine Kierulf will present the key findings from the Official Norwegian Reports NOU 2022:2 and the initiative behind the report.
Academic freedom was also the main theme for this year’s European Network for Young Academies (ENYA) meeting in Stockholm in May.
